HEART_BROKEN

Does anyone here hunt Lavon?  I go there and hunt Ducks and Hogs.  I have really been disgusted at what people dump there.  Among the larger items, a Dishwasher, tons of old tires, a garbage disposal, and just a ton of crap.  I talked to the Ranger, who said he would be glad to lend a hand and supply a proper dump site to me if I organized a volunteer clean up day there.  I consider all Public land in Texas "my land", and would appreciate if people quit dumping there trash on my land, and I am sure most of you out there would agree.  I am thinking about organizing some sort of cleanup day, so if anybody here would like to join up, please send me an email.

I don't know where Lavon is but scrap steel is running about seven cents a pound here.  When there are appliances or other large metal things dumped around here they don't last long before some one takes the to the scrape yard.  Not to mention the aluminum from all those beer cans.  What you should consider is organizing a  monthly or yearly clean up day, and promote it on the radio and what not.  Good luck and be sure to post photos when you do have the clean up day.

I have had one repy by email, so I really have not had much of a response, but the two of us will do what we can.  I don't have a set weekend yet, but I figure it will be late May...after Turkey season ends.  Please email me to let me know if you are interested.

Michael, Sent my email address to you via email. Have no idea if I could make it, but if I am not doing anything the day you go, I will try and show up. I only do maybe one duck hunt out there a year. I also request them to add Snipe as legal game every year when I turn in my survey. A good population of them migrates through there each season, but my request is always ignored. I assume the person running the program does not know enough about hunting to know it is a real bird and think I am joking. Anyway, drop me and email when you go, and I will let you know. John

You are allowed to hunt Hogs year round with archery, Rabbits year round with shotgun, squirrel during season, Ducks during season, and Dove.  You are NOT allowed to hunt deer there.  Interestingly enough, I have seen many more deer (and some pretty darn nice ones) than hogs.  There are some hogs there, but not many.  The only real reason I hunt there is cause it is close to my house.  I can get up early, go hunting, and be back home by 10 AM.  The only real success I have had is Duck and Rabbits.  I could have filled all my deer tags if deer were legal.  If you want to go watch deer, this would be a great place.

May 31st.  Saturday morning.  I talked to one of the rangers this morning, and he is going to get me a key so we can get inside with a pickup to get at the trash easier.  He is also working on getting us a dumpster.  I want to try to get a list of who will show, so please let me know if you plan to make it.

I was a little dissapointed in the turn out.  Myself, my brother-in-law, foster daughter and a regular from the ranger station, and 4 volunteers from the Best Buy in Plano.  I was not disapointed in the work done.  We had a 21 foot flatbed, and we were able to fill it to the hilt!  Among the things we pulled out of that WMA were a dishwasher, oven, large file cabinet, dash form an old Chevy truck, dozens of tires, a bag full of fresh baby diapers, two matresses, and bags upon bags of small trash items.  We only covered about 6 acres out of 6500.  I see more clean up days in my future...

We're moving out near to the Lake Lavon area - didn't know there was that much COE land out there...or that you could even hunt!  Next time you go up there to clean up please post it on the board.  Thanks.

I have some friends that live over there.  Nice area.  I posted the Lavon Website earlier in the thread.  In order ot hunt, you need to go to the main office and obtain a permit.  The permit is free, they just want to register the hunters using the land.  After that, you are free to hunt any open season that they have.  No deer season, which is too bad.  I have seen some BIG deer back there...no Turkey either.
