Howdy!  You might start with checking the Texas Parks and Wildlife website for hunting.  There is a lot of information on the wildlife management areas and the hunting that is permitted.  I bet you will find something suitable for you this 2009-2010 hunting season.  Best of luck!   and Good hunting!!

Here's a link for the hunting opportunites in the Texas State Wildlife Management Areas.  I'd personally recommend Richland Chambers WMA for duck hunting.  While I've not been there in quite some time the Trinity River runs right through it and the woodies were thick in there at one time.  Plus, its only about 45 miles from your house.

Here's also a link from DU on the area.  Apparently they've built an impoundment near there for habitat improvement.

Welcome to TX.  Not sure of any public waterfowling though.  Keep looking, something will turn up.  Gene is correct..Texas Parks and Wildlife is your best place to start.

Has anyone ever eaten a sandhill crane?

My grandmother used to cook one in place of the turkey at Thanksgiving. Not my favorite, but alot of the family seemed to like it better.
