Since Midland is a one buck county and I harvested my buck on Wendsday I asked permission to take my good friend Trey, who I do allot of duck/goose/crane hunting with, out to the ranch and see if we could get him his first buck. Saw nothing last night and got back in the stand around 5 this morning. Had early doe activity then the wind picked up and we saw nothing for almost 3 hours. A little after 10 I saw this boy head down on the same path the does had taken earlier. Several stressful minutes later the deer was on the ground. I've never been with someone when they get their first deer or buck, and I don't know who was freaking out more, me or him. I can honestly say that it was the best deer hunting experience I"ve had over the years. The look on his face when he grabbed those horns was priceless.
