BIRDS

I moved to Midland, TX several years ago from around Stuttgart, Ar.. hunted rice fields, flooded timber, creek and river bottoms over decoys....some great memories!!!

Now mostly have hunted quail and pheasant with German Shorthairs...still long for those Greenheads though. Can anyone kindly tell me where to look for public hunting or a reasonable lease in the Tx-Panhandle??? Getting ready for the 2010-2011 season already...Have decoys will travel.   Please respond to email for confidentiality...Thank you in advance...I Talk Duck...

That is the website for all of the lakes that are managed by the Army Corps of Engineers in Texas. Most of them allow hunting and you do not even have to register. Others may have you bring your credentials to the office in order to get a free permit, but all of that information is on the site. All other lakes in Texas will be managed by the Texas Parks an Wildlife and you can find that information at their website. There is also a lake Truscott in the Panhandle that I hear can hold some ducks but have never been. I know a few guides in the area, If you are looking for a guide service you can e-mail me. Good luck to you out there!

You might be surprised if you look around Midland. I was born and raised in the town next door (Odessa). I know there's not allot of water around, but what little there is attracts a good number of ducks (for the area). Look south of i-20 for a place that Monahans draw runs through a property then contact that landowner. Here's my duck hole in Midland on the draw (family land, not for lease unfortunately).
