The last week or so has yeilded some great fly fishing on the Guadalupe River. The stocked fish have settled in to a normal feeding pattern and have spread out through the deeper runs, pools, guts and riffles. Cooler water temps have also contributed to this positive change. Nymphing remains the most effective tactic. Although the river remains low and clear, getting your flies down with a good amount of weight is important. 9 ft 5X leaders have allowed us to fish deep without spooking trout in the process. Smaller indicators can also be helpful when fishing to these spooky trout. Good hatches of caddis, tricos, bwo's, slate drakes and midges have occurred daily, so selecting the right fly can be difficult. The most productive patterns over the last week have been san juan worms, zebra midges, graphic caddis, black copper johns and soft hackle hares eares. Streamers remain a solid selection as well when fishing slower, deeper water. We have been seeing good numbers and a great average size (around 18") the last week and would love to show you the awesome trout fishing found right in your backyard.
