We posted about 2 weeks ago seeking advice. Thanks to all for advice. We had a pretty good luck shooting 9 between the 3 of us this weekend. 2 of us being an 8 year old and 11 year old who cannot keep still. We ended up getting 12 mallard decoys and a mallard mojo at Academy. We sat up everything on the south end of our pond because of a strong north wind. We tore it up the 1st hour Saturday seeing between 100 and 150 ducks with several trying to land. we should have shot more than 7. we still are in the beginning stages so I am not sure what we shot. All I can say for sure is some were little and some much bigger birds. We think we shot a few scaup and black duck and a mallard hen. We tried to  call alittle but my sons enjoy calling so we probably called too much and most ducks remained high rollers and went on past us. The evening hunt all we saw were high rollers about dark. Sunday morning it was dead still and cold and only three came low and we shot two. We saw about 150 but they just flew on by. I guess we are in a fly way around our area but we are trouble getting them close. Any advice om identification and getting them close would be be appreciated.

As far as indentification buy you a  (The Lemaster Method) http://www.amazon.com/Waterfowl-Identification-Lemaster-Method-Richard/dp/0811729826 .  It is cheap and  very useful for identifing ducks.

Follow this link. It will show you pictures of each duck in and around TX and the U.S. along with what sounds they make.

Hope this helps.

The link that Hank posted is awesome for learning your waterfowl ID! Also, if the wind is out of the North, set up on the north side, the ducks like to land going into the wind, and where they are out of the wind for the most part. That way you can get some face to face shots at em. Sounds like you guys did great for your first time out! You will only learn more and get better from here on out, good luck.
