World Health Organization and DU Meet to Discuss Avian Flu
This hunting season, waterfowl hunters in North America don't have to worry about the dangerous strain of avian flu that has grabbed recent media headlines. So says World Health Organization (WHO) influenza authority Dr. Robert G. Webster.
“There is no more problem hunting ducks this year than any other year,” Dr Webster said. “ There is no evidence at all that the Asian H5N1 virus is in the Americas.”
Senior Ducks Unlimited (DU) biologists met recently with Dr. Webster to learn from the flu expert and to coordinate its message with the WHO to provide the best available science on the issue to the waterfowl hunting community and the general public.

Waterfowlers, Farmers & Ranchers Needed to Help Structure the 2007 Farm Bill Support Farm Bill Conservation Programs Now!
The 2007 Farm Bill will play a vital role in Ducks Unlimited's wetlands conservation mission. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has provided an opportunity for DU supporters to voice their support for conservation programs. It will be cri tical that farmers, ranchers and landowners show their support for programs like the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) and the Wetlands Reserve Program (WRP) that are improving their land and wildlife habitat.
The USDA is holding several forums for farmers, ranchers and landowners to voice their opinions on the upcoming 2007 Farm Bill. They're also holding an online open comment period until Dec. 31 to hear from those who are unable to attend the forums. Please visit www.ducks.org/2007FarmBill to learn more about USDA conservation programs and what they mean to Ducks Unlimited, as well as to see our sample comments to the USDA and to submit your own. Remember, more habitat on the ground means more birds in the sky!
