I Took My Daughter Deer Hunting for the First TimeWritten on: 12/04/2006 18:09 by: texashuntfish
Last year I took my daughter Mary Margaret dove hunting a couple times and she loved it. This year I decided to take her deer hunting and see how that would work out. On the hike to the blind we saw a HUGE owl swoop down right over us. It was awesome and she really got excited. We got to the tent blind and got situated. We packed all kind of treats and drinks for her to have while we sat. That might have been her favorite part. I knew it would help her enjoy the sitting. She did really good asking questions, looking around and sitting still. About 45 minutes into the hunt came the first time I’ve ever told her that she couldn’t go to the bathroom. Of course, she had to go REAL BAD so we ended up getting out of the tent for some relief. We sat there a little longer after that, but then it started getting dark and we didn’t see anything come in. All in all it was a great trip. I felt so good that she was intrigued by everything and interested. I definitely think it was a wise move to get her outdoors and accustomed to the surroundings. I don’t want my kids going on their first trip outdoors when they are 12 and need to learn about it all then. I can’t wait to take her again. Maybe a duck hunt this time?

Good to hear! I remember going hunting with my dad from a very early age... probably about the same age that MM is now or possibly younger.
Can't wait to see some pics of the next hunt!
I always tried to keep hunting trips short and sweet when my kids were young. They all loved going duck hunting. Bring them a thermos of hot chocolate and some sausage biscuits wrapped in foil. They love it!
yum, hot chocolate and sausage biscuits - can we join you on the next hunt? :)
Awesome idea for her to take some photos for her point of view. She loves doing that.
