A Good Morning Duck HuntWritten on: 12/09/2006 13:48 by: texashuntfish
Last week Troy sat at the pond to see if he could arrow one of the deer making all the tracks there. Instead of deer he ended up seeing 13 different ducks come to the pond in about an hour's time. As a result we put down our deer hat and put on our duck hat to see if we could harvest a couple ducks. Andy, Troy and I decided to meet at 5am and head out to see what kind of duck action we could get into. To start the trip off I didn't hear the alarm and so I woke up 15 minutes after we were supposed to meet. We got on the road at 5:30am and were sitting on the pond ready at first light. It was a few minutes after sunlight and three ducks flew over about 200 feet up. They checked us out and kept on keeping on. A little while longer went by and two ducks dropped in out of nowhere. YEAH! Ready - 1 - 2 - 3! Shots rang out from all three of us and the two ducks fell - they were bagged. There was no action for a while so Troy and I decided to jump another tank with the hopes that if we missed something it would come to the tank Andy was on. We jumped another tank and got one more duck out of the two that were on the tank. They had come from Andy's tank where he didn't get a good shot, so the reverse of our plan happened - that's why they call it hunting isn't it?? We drove around the ranch and checked the feeders to see the deer really hitting the corn now. We were on our way out of the ranch and decided to stop by the same tank once more. TWO GREENHEADS!!!! We got out of the vehicle and ninja'd up to a spot for a good shot. BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! - Two ducks wounded. We got up on them and finished the deal. Two awesome greenheads to add to the bag. Nice! A good morning duck hunt with good friends - it just can't be beat.

Great work you guys! I love the play-by-play photo shoot / narration of the pond jumping effort. That's a great take for a couple hours work in the hill country! Good shooting. Maybe you should give deer hunting up and go pro on the duck tour? Those are some monster green heads - think it's time to dig a couple more ponds on the Shannon ranch this spring.
Thanks for sharing you hunt with us!
