I went duck hunting with four buddies yesterday, and we had a fantastic hunt. The weather conditions were perfect, and the ducks really worked our spread. We killed a great mixed bag, and just had a great morning. The great thing about this hunt was the way the wind worked to our advantage out of the SSW. We set up with about 3 dozen decoys. A dozen were set up on the weak side with the other two dozen set up as blockers into the wind. We had 3 mechanical decoys also in the spread, and due to the strong winds, I was able to use one that is wind powered. That particular decoy was very effective because the wings flapped irregularly with the strength of the wind. The wigeon worked us in large groups early, and around 7:30 we got covered up with pintials. Good solid cloud cover worked in our favor and kept the light low during the entire hunt. Due to some good shooting from my buddies, we were able to pick out nice bulls. We killed some nice sprig pintails, two of which will hang on the wall.

What makes it great is that we had five of us working out of one blind, and we limited out with ease. It doesn't get much better than that. I truly wish I had a video camera for this hunt. You just don't get into ducks like that every day, especially a nice mixed bag of big ducks.

Overall we killed Pintail, Wigeon, Green Wing Teal, and Gadwall. In the picture, we lined them up by species.
