Applications for Drawings on Texas Public Hunting Lands

Applications for Drawings on Texas Public Hunting Lands
Summary:

Don't complain about the cost of hunting in Texas if you haven't taken advantage of the many public hunting opportunities available. There are several raffles that give you a 1 in 10 chance of winning - did you buy your $10 permit?

Why Wait for Dove Season?

Why Wait for Dove Season?
Summary: Why Wait for Dove Season? By: Joe Schram I know many of us can’t wait to get out there on opening day with a case of new shotgun shells and blast away. That’s right, I said a case! I have been dove hunting many times where I watch hunters go out and shoot a case a day to get a limi...

The River

Summary: Hunting on the Trinity river my entire life I have learned to hunt throuh some difficult times and situations.  It is amazing how things and places can change so drastically in a few years. I can remember being a young boy and Dad picking me up from school on a Friday evening.  We would head home ...

Wetland Project Benefits Not Only the Wildlife

Wetland Project Benefits Not Only the Wildlife
Summary:

The sun was just beginning to break over the eastern horizon, a welcome sight to Jacob Sands and myself as we huddled low in the marsh grass, waiting for legal shooting light. The temperature was in the low twenties and a brisk northwest wind made it seem colder. Whistling wings could be heard overhead as teal, pintail, mallards and an assortment of diving ducks stirred from their night’s rest on the water. Across the wetland, the sound of a big flock of geese, a mixture of snows, white front and Canada’s could be heard as the big birds stirred and took flight from their night’s roost and headed to a distant field to feed. The day was coming to life and legal shooting time was seconds away.

How to Cook Your Goose

How to Cook Your Goose
Summary:

Hunting season has been underway for over 3 months now and chances are good many of you have a freezer well stocked with everything from dove breasts to venison steaks. Game meat is far more nutritious than domestic but it does require different cooking techniques. Take venison, for example. Venison is very lean and what fat there is in the meat should be removed; it’s the fat that sometimes contributes to the ‘gamey’ taste that some folks complain about.

A Texas Wildlife Artist with Talent

Summary: Growing up in West Texas my little brother ran with a pretty unique group of guys. It seemed like they were always into crazy things and spent more time playing than working. I figured none of them would amount to much, but as time went by most of them adapted to normal lives and became...

"Hunting and Fishing in Texas" Radio Show- 8, October 14th

"Hunting and Fishing in Texas" Radio Show- 8, October 14th
Summary: The October 14th broadcast of Hunting and Fishing and Texas could be called our “Waterfowl Show,” even though if it were up to me they would all be waterfowl shows.  What can I say, I just like ducks.  I am actually obsessed with waterfowl.  We were fortunate enough to have Wes Caldwell and Larry N...

Life is good. Hunting is a gift.

Life is good. Hunting is a gift.
Summary: We all hear a lot about global climate change, posted land, habitat encroachment, and other trends that threaten hunting.   In fact, it may be true - we may land fewer fish, bag fewer birds, or take trophy animals less often these days.   Despite all that, hunting, as I think of it, is alive ...

Thank you for supporting the Youth Hunting Program! -------------------------- Wildlife 2007 (San Antonio) gave TWA members a small glimpse of the Texas Youth Hunting Program and an opportunity to visit with...

"Hunting and Fishing in Texas" Radio Show 9, October 21st

"Hunting and Fishing in Texas" Radio Show 9, October 21st
Summary: If show 8 was "The waterfowl episode," show 9 was the sequel.  Larry Neal form the Austin chapter of Delta Waterfowl called in shortly after the show started to give us an update on their event that took place the previous weekend, which apparently was there most profitable ever.  Congratulations t...
