Has anyone had any luck or seen any Turkeys in Cass County? We just recently leased the land for the upcoming deer season but i have grown an interest in trying to take a turkey and didnt really know if there were any around.

TURKEY

Howdy! There is only a Spring Turkey Season for Cass County, April 1 -30th. White Oak Creek WMA is in some of Cass County. You might call the wildlife biologist for this WMA and ask about turkeys. Some of the East Texas counties have a season; however, you would be hard pressed to find a turkey in some of them. Best of luck! Always, Gene

I haven't hunted Cass County for a number of years, but I can tell you that there have been some restocking efforts for eastern wild turkeys there.  Have hunted in neighboring Red River County to the NW of you and there's a decent population in that county.  Gene probably has a point - that wildlife biologist works with private landowners as well, and if you can give him a general idea where your lease is you might be surprised at what he can tell you.  I've talked with them out in WTX and they've been helpful out there.

Let us know how you do.

According to this study Cass County has wild turkeys.

There might be some NWTF contacts here that can help

A buddy of mine has family property that we hunt up in Linden, and an uncle who live on the place who say's he's seen a lot of turkeys up that way. I also talked to a biologist who has seen a larger number of them around Atlanta, Tx. They are in the county, but may you want to do something to attract them to your place like planting food plots...turkey are crazy about chufa and if u plant some that may brig them around.

Well you may stand a decent chance at taking or at least seeing a bird. I'd try to do some scouting before hand, but if you don't have time before Thursday you may want to practice on your calling and maybe take a hen decoy and try your chances. If there aren't any on the place now, I'd plant the chufa gold right after the season or early June, and once traveling birds discover it during late summer, fall and winder months they may stick around for next spring. Deer and hogs also love the stuff so you'll benefit either way....
