DU’s #1 conservation focus area – the Prairie Pothole Region – provides Texas with the vast majority of our waterfowl migration. Over 75% of the banded ducks harvested in Texas originate in this critical portion of the breeding grounds.
DU and our conservation partners have conserved over 5.6 million acres of critical waterfowl habitat in the provinces and states that make up the Prairie Pothole Region.

The revenues raised at local DU events are the primary funds that drive our habitat conservation on the breeding grounds, particularly the Prairie Pothole Region. The best way Texas duck hunters can help protect these vital habitats is by volunteering for their local DU committee to help raise the dollars needed to drive this invaluable work.
Our local DU event system would fail to exist without the volunteers who run and manage the local chapters across the country.
Over 90% of the public projects DU has performed work on between Texas and the Prairie Pothole Region (Oklahoma, Kansas and Nebraska) are open to hunting.
