QUESTION

Below are the details. I think I should buy this for myself. I just didn't know about it. It pays for itself in 10 yrs!

Lifetime Licenses

Lifetime Resident Combination Hunting and Fishing: $1000; Lifetime Resident Hunting: $600; Lifetime Resident Fishing: $600. Note: A lifetime resident hunting or fishing license can be upgraded to a lifetime resident combination hunting and fishing license for $400.

Residents may buy hunting and fishing licenses valid for the lifetime of the license holder. The lifetime license exempts the holder from state stamp endorsement requirements. The lifetime license does not exempt the holder from the Federal Duck Stamp requirement. Not valid for commercial fur trapping. Lifetime tags may be obtained at retailers each year at no fee. Applications for lifetime licenses may be obtained from TPWD offices, online at http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/ or by calling (800) 792-1112 (option 9, ext. 4759). Lifetime licenses are only available from the TPWD Austin Headquarters.

It does make sense to go ahead and get the lifetime licence, but i'm sure my wife would kill me first and have me turned into a full head mount and hang me on the wall, but then again it doesn't hurt to ask.

I have often thought about that and if I could spare the 1000$ I would go ahead and get one, but alas I don't... One day though I will get one.

The plain and simple fact is it boils down to money. to some people $1000.00 is nothing. To others it might hurt but they can do it. Then to other folks (like me) that will pay a bunch of bills and is the kind of money seen once a year around tax time. The license without a doubt is worth the $1000.00 they ask. Maybe one day I can get one.

Depends -- over enough years it probably ends up being a real good deal, especially if license fees keep rising in the future. The younger you are, the better deal you get -- problem is that the younger you are, the less likely you are to be able to afford the $1000 up front. Plus, you could consider it a bad deal if you figure the time value of the money -- assuming a ten percent return on the $1000, you could just invest it, use the interest to buy your hunting license every year, and still have your $1000 available if needed. Most importantly, though, is the issue raised above -- how do you get the wife to sign off on that?!

Not everyone can drop $1000 bucks at one whack.  I can come up with the cash for the super-combo once a year.

Guns don't kill people....Its those pesky little bullets making lots of holes that all the blood leaks out of.
